Ok...advice on jogging...
Now there...I have nothing better to do...so I might as well give some personal advice of mine on how to jog long distance without really having to stop. It's simple...here are some of my own advice...follow this and you can easily complete a 5km jog.I am not being proud...just want others to be able to jog long distance as well.Since I can do that then y shouldn't I give some personal advice?!?
First thing first...Remember to breathe properly!!!Don't ever grasp for air. That's bad running.Instead keep this constant.Inhale though your nose, exhale though your mouth.Do this till you finish your run. This advice is given by Kenyans.C'mon.They don't run at a rate of 20km per hour for no reason.Since they offer advice then why not? It's like Sun Zi or Jiang Ziya teaching you war strategies...your loss if you don't listen to them.
Second...do proper warm-up exercise!!!This affects a lot.Stretching only specific parts of your body is not recommended.Try to do twice.Do once at home and then go to the starting line u set yourself.Stretch at there as well. Why stretch twice? The first one is to prepare your muscles. It's like alerting them that u are going to do some vigourous exercise. The second one is to enhance your performance. With your body "notified",the second warm up stretches your muscles to its maximum. So warm up is a must...
Thirdly...drink lots of water before the run.And eat something at least an hour before.Water is essential. The first syndromes of dehydration is giddiness, and u wouldn't like to feel giddy and yet continue to push yourself forward.I did that mistake before so there's live examples. So remember.Drink lots and lots of water.Don't worry about your red blood cells bursting..you'll use up a lot of your body fluids in a 30 mins jog.
Fourthly...do not stop halfway though the jog!!!Jogging is all about momentum and once you stop you are more or less done for the day in terms of jogging. In traffic lights situation, jog on the spot.Yes it looks awfully awkward but it beats stoppin and then start joggin again...and don't give me the stupi* excuse that stop-jog-stop-jog can train your stamina. That's only for acceleration. How fast u can accelerate from 0m/s to your max speed. You are a marathonist. Not a sprinter.Only Kenyans can combine both...
Fifth...distraction.There are two solutions to getting distracted by smog and sound of cars bypassing your jogging path. One is though the use of music. It's to make you deaf to the surroundings. And pls...no pop songs.Get one that feel you up with adrenaline.I listened to Aya's songs when I jogged. And man it's the stupi*est thing I did.I was trying to lip-sing with the songs!!!So get a song that will allow u to concentrate on your task...I currently use hard metal band DragonForce.I'll change to Metallica or X-Japan after two more weeks...
The second solution to distraction is controlling your breathing.Try to focus on breathing in though your nose and exhaling though your mouth.Effective for first-timers to this breathing method.
Sixth...motivation.Yes this is what I like most. This thing alone can determine 50% of my jogging. So set a realistic target...maybe the typical 2.4km for starters and 5km for intermediate joggers. Those old birds...10km.Which is not much to them. They can run 21km for Shearles Bridge.10km is what to them?Ok after setting your target then try to convince yourself not to fail. It's mind games really.Tell yourself."I must not stop now or else I'll be such a dissappointment." or something like that.Try to make it a "do-or-die" situation.Since your target is realistic then u surely be able to finish it.
So...my 6 strategies to jogging. Not the best but helps a lot on road to NS.Want to treat NS as a stroll in the park? Then start training now!!!I assure you with enough training their famed "10 kilo march' is nothing to you.
I next week then post on how to build your body with different exercise and why.Thighs chest abs biceps triceps...all have different exercise.Don't tell me push up and sit-ups are good enough. They are good enough to let u squeeze though the NS...not dominate your platoon...
